A cleric and ten members of the United Evangelical Church (UEC), New Layout, Lokoja, Kogi State, narrowly escaped death when they were kidnapped by gunmen in Ajaokuta.
The attempted kidnapping happened on Ajaokuta-Itobe Road over the weekend while returning to Lokoja from a wedding in Dekina LGA.
The Daily Post reported that a source reported that the bus carrying church members was hit by bullets around 3pm.
The source said it was miraculous that the kidnappers were unable to kidnap any of them.
“With God’s help, they were miraculously saved from their kidnappers.
“They fired several shots at the driver, but miraculously, God didn’t let any bullets hit him.”
The source explained that some tourists were injured by bullets, adding that they had been treated at the hospital in Lokoja and had been discharged.
Kogi state police spokesman, SP William Aya, confirmed the incident, saying it was a deliberate kidnapping and was put down as soon as the people of the command became aware of the news.
Aya said police officers and soldiers took action immediately after receiving the report. He explained that the security officers engaged the gangsters, causing them to escape and all the passengers were rescued.
