NLC, TUC suspend planned nationwide strike

The Nigerian Labor Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, have suspended a planned national strike over fuel subsidy elimination.

The President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila revealed this on Monday evening after a meeting between the federal government and unions at Aso Villa.

According to him, the Federal Government, TUC and NLC will form a joint committee to consider the proposal of any salary increase or bonus and establish a framework and timeframe for implementation.

“The Federal Government, the TUC and the NLC will review the World Bank-funded cash transfer program and propose to include low-income people in the scheme,” the statement read in part.

The NLC and TUC had previously threatened to launch a nationwide strike on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, DAILY POST has reported that the National Industrial Court in Abuja has ordered Labor unions not to strike.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation last Wednesday announced a new pricing model for fuels across the country.

The development saw fuel pump prices increase from N197 per liter to over N500
