National Assembly passes bill to punish sexual offenders in tertiary institutions


The National Assembly has passed a bill to ban and sanction sexual harassment of teachers/lecturers in universities.

The Senate passed this bill in 2020 but the House passed their bill but with different provisions.

On Wednesday, June 7, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Senator Opeyemi Bamidele announced that the conference committees of both houses had harmonized different views when he presented the report in session. plenary meeting.

The proposed bill seeks to criminalize sexual harassment by educators of students in higher education institutions.

The National Assembly on Wednesday also passed legislation mandating the inclusion of sexual and gender-based violence prevention measures in the curricula of all levels of secondary education in Nigeria.
