Five unidentified corps members were tragically killed in an accident in the Cross River State.
According to reports, the victims were on their way to the Primary Assignment Site (PPA) on Monday, June 5 when their bus turned off the bridge and plunged into the river.
All the occupants of the bus, including members of the corps, drowned in the river.
The National Youth Service Corps’ Cross River State Coordinator, Andrew Zemoh, confirmed the deaths of five corps members.
Zemoh in a conversation with reporters expressed sympathy for the bereaved families and noted that they will decide when to bury the victims.
A Facebook user, Comr Salau George Alexander, who claims to have camped with them in Cross River (Obubra camp) block A stream 2, shared photos of the victims on the platform.
“RIP for these beautiful souls. We’ve been camping together at Cross River (Obubra camp) lot A stream 2. I remember how we (me and Giveth) met at Onitcha park on the way to Cross River and became close. She becomes friends with Ada in the camp, and they are inseparable. Everyone in our camp knows them as best friends.
When I heard the news today, I was very scared. I just couldn’t believe it. I made a few calls to confirm, and alas! It happened. There are reports that they drowned after their car fell into the river. How it happened I cannot fathom, but God knows best. RIP, you paid the final price. May God give you heaven, he wrote.
