The tragic Mark Beard car accident left his community in shock and mourning the loss of a beloved figure.

The untimely death of Rev. Mark Beard has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him.

He was a charismatic priest who breathed life into St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite and significantly impacted his community.

Let’s shed light on Mark Beard’s life, his contributions to the church, and the details surrounding his fatal car accident.

Mark Beard’s life and contributions

Mark Beard was born in Baton Rouge and was a well-known figure who actively served his community before he became a priest.

He attended Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge and graduated from Catholic High.

After completing his undergraduate and master’s degrees from LSU, he joined his father and brother in Beard Engineering, where he helped install wastewater systems around the world.

However, his life took a transformative turn when he visited Medjugorje, a village in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in 2000, at his father’s urging.

He wrote that he was young, bullet-proof, and liked money, power, and dating-the unholy Trinity.

After attending confession for the first time in years, he realized there was more to life than material gains.

In 2004, Mark entered the Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans to pursue his calling and was eventually ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Baton Rouge.

Mark was assigned to St. Joseph’s Church in Lutcher before moving to St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite.

He quickly became a beloved figure in his community, and his sermons attracted large crowds of people.

St. Helena Catholic Church grew under his leadership, and he was responsible for revitalizing it.

His warm personality and dynamic preaching style were instrumental in bringing new parishioners and revitalizing the faith of those who were already members of the church.

Mark was known to be a deeply religious man who had a close relationship with Louisiana’s Governor, John Bel Edwards.

The two had a friendship that was built on their shared faith, and Mark often accompanied him to political events, offering prayers and support.

Mark was also a familiar sight in his black Ford Explorer in Amite and nearby towns in Tangipahoa Parish, where he often had breakfast with friends at the Waffle House and appeared at community events that needed a minister of any faith.
