(Hampstead, NY, February 1, 2023) Sacred Heart Academy (SHA) is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Teresa Prendergast as the 11th Principal of the All-Catholic Girls’ Preparatory School. Prendergast, an experienced educator and strategic administrator, will start in August 2023.

Dr. Prendergast is currently Principal of Great Neck Public Schools. In this role, she is responsible for an enrollment of 6,800 students in 10 schools, from kindergarten to grade 12. She oversees curriculum and instruction, professional development, recruitment and retention, supporting student well-being through a strong social-emotional curriculum and expanded mental capacity. health services, including a mental health partnership with Northwell Health.

President Kristin Lynch Graham said, “In a field where talent is abundant and the selection process is rigorous, Dr. Her strong commitment made her an excellent choice. As the mother of SHA’s two children (Kaitlin ’10, Megan ’12), she experienced firsthand the value of SHA. In fact, it was her daughters who encouraged her to apply. Prendergast has been an educator since 1987 and has held the positions of vice principal, principal, deputy principal, dean, and class teacher. Previously, she served as the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Garden City Public Schools. She earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration and Supervision and a Professional Diploma in Educational Supervision and Supervision from St. John’s University, as well as a Master of Science in Mathematics Education, Grades 7-12, and in Mathematics Education, Grades 7-12, from Lehman College, CUNY, CUNY Lehman College, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Kindergarten 6th Grade and Mathematics, Grades 7-9, from the University St. John’s. “Helping young women become confident leaders and active members of their community and faith aligned with my professional and personal values,” Prendergast said.
