Bandits kill 37 for refusing to pay levy impose on them in Sokoto


The suspected robbers killed 37 people and injured many others for failing to pay the taxes imposed on them in three communities in the Tangaza Local Government Area of ​​Sokoto State.

A community leader, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf, who revealed this on Sunday, said the incident happened on Saturday night, adding that communities were affected; Raka, Raka Dutse and Filin Gawa.

Also confirming the attack, the former chairman of the local government, Alhaji Bashar Kalenjeni, said 18 people were killed in Raka, 17 in Filin Gawa and two in Raka Dutse.

He say, “We wanted to bury them overnight, but the robbers came back and dispersed us. As of this morning (Sunday), the dead have not yet been buried.”

He said the robbers were angry and killed the villagers because they refused to pay the tax the robbers imposed on the entire community.

He said there are other villagers who have yet to be found and added: “Currently, we are waiting for security officers to lead us back to the village to bury the dead.

A spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, did not take his call.
